“Rather Lovely Electro-Folk”Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie – BBC 6 Music

The feel of Elliott Smith & Sufjan Stevens– Scottish Daily Express ★★★★

Haunting – The Sunday Times

Chris Cleverley was born under a solstice moon, in the honeysuckle mysticism of a late 80s Midsummer.

Cleverley’s boundary-shattering ‘Dream-Folk’ songwriting sits on the cutting edge of modern folk. A true guitar-man, his elaborate alternate tunings, percussive rhythms and ambient sound design flow beneath a visceral lyrical style inspired by the Lo-fi American Greats, Elliott Smith & Sufjan Stevens; a curious tapestry weaved from the hazy psychedelia of the 60s folk revival and the soulful oblivion of 90s Pacific Northwest.

‘Frost Giant’ (feat. Molly Rymer)

It’s time for the 2nd single from my forthcoming new Christmas record!

‘Frost Giant’ is a collaboration with extraordinary vocalist Molly Rymer. It takes its inspiration from the frozen fjords and snowcapped tundra of Scandinavian Folklore.

I hope you enjoy it.

‘Frost Giant’ invokes the imagery of the Jötunn; ancient giants of the Norwegian Arctic tundra, embodying the primal forces of nature and chaos, frozen for millennia under sheets of ice. Here they pose as a chilling analogy for the distance that can exist between us in the fragmented 21st Century emotional landscape

‘Lord Of Chaos’ – The New Single

I’m very pleased to share my first new music in 12 months.

‘Lord Of Chaos’ releases today!

It is the debut single from my forthcoming Christmas E.P, ‘Gods Of All Things’, due out Dec 2025. Drawing heavily on my Folk Revival and Americana roots, it is a winter anthem for the divided self.

I invite you to take a listen and would love to hear what you think:

Lord Of Chaos is a plea to the universal forces – The Gods of All Things – that we may find the agency to direct our lives, released from the cycles of thought within which we can become trapped; free from unhelpful psychological states, free from a rigid collective consciousness, free from past burdens.

When we enter our hibernation states as December draws in, it’s often our first pause for rest in so long. In this decompression, we may become aware of all we’ve been carrying for weeks, months even. If your load has been a heavy one this year, then this song goes out, with my love, to you especially. I hope this holiday season brings you the rest you deserve!”

NEW MUSIC OUT TODAY

🌲 NEW MUSIC 🌲

Today is a very special day!!! I’m over the moon to share with you my first new music in over 2 years.

I give you the first single from my new E.P

‘Snowfall, My Evergreen’

A small number of you will have seen this performed in its rawest acoustic form. I’m excited to see what you think of the final studio version.

The story of this snowman offers a bittersweet allegory for the ambiguities of human relationships, in which we may bring out both the very best and the very worst in one another, in cycles that follow the path of the seasons. Because we are fluid, we are changeable, we are beautifully imperfect and distinctly human right?

NEW SINGLE – Out Today!

Heraklion – Live at Get Real Audio

The 2nd single from my live E.P is out now on all your favourite streaming platforms.

It is a song about presentness; calming the mind and grounding ourselves in the real!

It’s set on the island of Crete, and named after the glorious 14th Century Venetian port town. For me it conjures images of trekking the Samaria Gorge in 30 degree heat, and standing in the neotithic caves carved into the cliff face, overlooking the picturesque fishing village of Matala, with the sun shimmering on the sea.

It speaks of the places we encounter that are so raw in their beauty, that for some blissful moments of calm, they free us from our whirring patterns of unconscious thought. Here we become grounded in the awareness that we are a living, breathing creature; a small, but important part of something much bigger than ourselves.

Do you know the kind of places I mean?

On the album we went with a Balearic chill-out feel for this track, so I’m really pleased to share this stripped back acoustic version, giving a window into how the song appeared when it was first written.
