This December I’ll be releasing my new Christmas E.P ‘In The Shadow of John The Divine’.
I’m looking forward to taking these new songs on tour over Eight beautiful, intimate venues, including a Full band Album Launch in my hometown of Birmingham.
“Rather Lovely Electro-Folk” – Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie – BBC 6 Music
“The feel of Elliott Smith & Sufjan Stevens” – Scottish Daily Express ★★★★
“Haunting” – The Sunday Times
Chris Cleverley was born under a solstice moon, in the honeysuckle mysticism of a late 80s Midsummer.
Cleverley’s boundary-shattering ‘Dream-Folk’ songwriting sits on the cutting edge of modern folk. A true guitar-man, his elaborate alternate tunings, percussive rhythms and ambient sound design flow beneath a visceral lyrical style inspired by the Lo-fi American Greats, Elliott Smith & Sufjan Stevens; a curious tapestry weaved from the hazy psychedelia of the 60s folk revival and the soulful oblivion of 90s Pacific Northwest.

The 2nd single from my live E.P is out now on all your favourite streaming platforms.
It is a song about presentness; calming the mind and grounding ourselves in the real!
It’s set on the island of Crete, and named after the glorious 14th Century Venetian port town. For me it conjures images of trekking the Samaria Gorge in 30 degree heat, and standing in the neotithic caves carved into the cliff face, overlooking the picturesque fishing village of Matala, with the sun shimmering on the sea.
It speaks of the places we encounter that are so raw in their beauty, that for some blissful moments of calm, they free us from our whirring patterns of unconscious thought. Here we become grounded in the awareness that we are a living, breathing creature; a small, but important part of something much bigger than ourselves.
Do you know the kind of places I mean?
On the album we went with a Balearic chill-out feel for this track, so I’m really pleased to share this stripped back acoustic version, giving a window into how the song appeared when it was first written.
I’m happy to share the official music video for my latest single ‘The Centre Cannot Hold (Live)’.
It was filmed by Abbie Barton, as a live performance at Josh Clark’s ‘Get Real Audio’ studios in Wiltshire. Hit the link on the image below to head on over to my YouTube page and give it a peek.

Friends, I’m very happy to share with you my latest single, which landed on streaming and digital download platforms today.
It’s a live re-imagining of a track from my 2022 album ‘Broadcast The Secret Verse’, giving a window into the ambient, ethereal solo live sound I’m taking on tour over 8 more dates this Spring.
The song draws on moments from the narrative account of a man fleeing the chaos of Eastern Aleppo, Dec 2016, during the Syrian Civil War. The articulate words he shared with a reporter blew open this tragic conflict for me in vivid, unsettling technicolour.
The reporting of conflict in our 24 hour media focusses so often on broader, overarching themes and events. I believe it is so important we stay connected to human stories and experiences, so we do not risk losing sight of the strong sense of empathy and understanding, which I believe is engrained in all of us.
As such this song goes out to people all over the world who are victims of displacement, and 50% of all digital download proceeds will go straight to the charity ‘RefugePoint’, who work with refugees to build stable, connected, and thriving lives.

I’m very pleased to announce three shows for March 2024 with the tremendous songwriters Amit Dattani & Gudmund Auring. It’s my first ever trip to the glorious country of #Denmark and I’m so pleased to spend it in performance and conversation with these two artists, as we share our songs in-the-round over three evenings.
